In the second match of WrestleMania Backlash 2021, WWE made history. For the first time ever, a father-son duo captured the WWE Tag Team Championships as Rey and Dominik Mysterio defeated The Dirty Dawgs.

Interestingly, the match started off with just Rey Mysterio as the sole challenger. However, it soon turned into a handicapped match with Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler going at Mysterio.

Rey still dominated the scene as he went to war with both men. He even got a near-fall towards the beginning of the match itself. Dominik was still nowhere to be seen after The Dirty Dawgs’ attack from earlier.

Roode and Dolph soon got an opening following back-to-back attacks. Roode even sent Mysterio to the floor as Dolph taunted him.

After putting him back in the ring, Dolph hit a double-team ‘Fame-asser’ but Rey somehow kicked out.

The Dirty Dawgs showed some frustration as they continued taunting Mysterio. However, “The Ultimate Underdog” got an opening with a double DDT in the middle of the ring and sent both men onto the ring posts.

Dominik Mysterio joined Rey Mysterio midway through the match

As the action unfolded inside the ring, Dominik appeared and walked towards the ring, clutching his injured ribs from the Dawgs’ attack early on. While Mysterio did not want him to be in the match, there was no stopping Dominik as he waited for the tag.

Rey prepared Dolph for a 619, but Robert Roode distracted him. Dolph, in turn, countered Mysterio with a Zig Zag, but Rey kicked out from the pin just in the nick of time.

Dominik finally got the tag after Roode dominated his father for a while. The young Mysterio countered and kicked out of multiple moves like the spine buster and a double-team neck breaker.

Dominik fought off the Dirty Dawgs with a superkick, and Rey tagged in. The former World Champion quickly hit a top rope senton, before taking out Dolph.

As his father hit a 619, Dominik went to the top and hit the Frog Splash on Roode to win the titles. This is Dominik’s first title in WWE and Rey’s 5th reign as Tag Team champion. The win was emotional for both as they celebrated following the victory.
