Indiana wide receiver Elijah Sarratt has unintentionally reignited tensions between the Hoosiers and Caitlin Clark fans by revealing the name of his furry companion. On January 17, during a press conference, the football player revealed the name of his dog, which caused a wide range of reactions among fans. It was a mix of funny and old college basketball rivalries that just won’t go away.

Sarratt talked openly about his life in Bloomington and how he got his pet.

“I got a nice little apartment. I just chill. Got my dog, and it’s a great town and great people,” he said, per reports. When asked the dog’s name, Sarratt said, “CC. They may not like it, she’s named after Caitlin Clark. That’s why I named her that. Indiana fans may not like that. But yeah, that’s my American bully. She’s my daughter right there.”

Clark played for the University of Iowa from 2020 to 2024. She won six out of the nine games against Indiana, won her last three games in a row, and then beat them badly in the 2022 Big Ten Tournament final. Hoosiers fans are still upset about that loss. When Sarratt names his dog after Clark, it feels like either accepting a rival or rubbing salt in an old wound.

Caitlin Clark also responded candidly, stating that she is a big fan of the Hoosiers and hopes to see Sarratt score three touchdowns in Monday’s game.

The confession immediately split the fan base. Fans of the Fever loved it. Clark was the first overall pick in 2024, which gave them hope for a championship and made college rivalries seem unimportant. But old-school Hoosiers fans are still torn. Sarratt purposely poked a wound, making Indiana think about one question. Does the rivalry still matter now that Clark plays for the city?

Younger fans see Clark’s generational talent no matter what uniform she’s wearing. Her amazing passing and three-point shooting have made the Fever real playoff contenders, which shows that her greatness goes beyond old rivalries.

On the other hand, Sarratt’s gesture was fully embraced by enthusiastic supporters. One happy response said, “We like it!!!” This shows that a lot of Indiana fans have completely moved on from the rivalry. Fans of the Fever, who had bad seasons before Clark came, see her as a savior now.

At last, a fan poked the bear highligting the rivalry between Indiana and the University of Iowa. “If there is one thing CC understands, it is a runner-up trophy,” alluding to her victories at the college level over Indiana. The insult was indicative that fans are fine with joking about former defeats. Comedy united people, indicating that the rivalry’s hurt has lessened to the point where many people can now laugh about the past and even their painful states. What is your reaction to Sarratt naming his dog CC?
