Although the US Women’s Volleyball team bowed out of the 2025 Volleyball Nations League against Italy, Lexi Rodriguez stood out in her first-ever VNL. Rodriguez stepped onto the VNL court for the first time against Serbia and ended the night with the most digs (17). Even during Team USA’s losing effort against Italy, Rodriguez led with 14 digs. Meanwhile, she’d made more progress.
Rodriguez’s triumphant debut and consistency have already earned the former Nebraska Huskers star a place on the World Championship’s wide roster. So, it’s safe to say a lot is going on as the 22-year-old enjoys her LOVB offseason. So maybe that’s why the libero dropped a photo dump on Instagram with the caption “heart is happy.” Yet, her former teammates noticed something.
Lexi Rodriguez didn’t feature photos from any particular event but rather a highlight reel of what she’s been up to both on and off the court. And it’s in some of those off-court glimpses that former Huskers teammates noticed a mystery guy. What’s more? Rodriguez subtly took the trouble to hide his face just enough so that random fans wouldn’t recognize him. Soon, the comments section was full of Huskers.

Nebraska libero Laney Choboy and outside hitter Harper Murray wrote ‘hard launch‘ while commenting on the post. However, they were not the only two people who hinted that Rodriguez gave fans a glimpse of her boyfriend. UNL’s Maisie Boesiger, Kennedi Orr, and other NCAA stars also hinted that Rodriguez was indeed launching her relationship on Insta. But there was a catch.

Besides hiding his face, Lexi Rodriguez ensured that prying fans would have a tough time playing Sherlock Holmes because she didn’t tag anyone in the pictures. Yet, there was a good reason behind the Huskers shipping her the mystery man, as the one common thing in the pictures was a cap. In fact, she put on the same green cap in another photograph. So it seems curious that fans will have to wait and see if Rodriguez introduces the mystery man, but that might take a back seat for now.

Lexi Rodriguez keeps making the headlines
While the former Husker didn’t play a big role during LOVB Omaha’s inaugural LOVB season, that’s set to change when a new season rolls around. Besides making her mark in the national indoor volleyball squad, Rodriguez will return to Omaha’s roster for the upcoming season. What’s more? She will probably become the team’s starting libero, as Justine Wong-Orantes has left.
And that’s not the only thing that has changed for the LOVB team. Jordan Larson, who ended the inaugural season as one of the league’s best players, is now part of the ownership group. “Nebraska legend Jordan Larson headlines the ownership group for the rebranded LOVB Nebraska team,” Hail Varsity posted earlier this week. And that’s not all.

On August 5th, Lexi Rodrigues and Jordan Larson joined US sports icons Stephen Curry, A’ja Wilson, Lamar Jackson, Sydney Leroux, and many others as ambassadors for ESPN’s Take Back Sports initiative. The noble initiative focuses on ensuring kids from all backgrounds and skill levels have a place to hone their craft and compete without the strings of profitability attached.

“It’s time to take back youth sports from a system that has prioritized profit over well-being,” ESPN’s Vice President of Corporate Citizenship, Kevin Martinez, said back in March. Now Lexi Rodriguez and her LOVB teammates have become the face of the initiative for volleyball. So, with all this and the World Championships knocking on the door, the 22-year-old might not get the chance to reveal if she’s dating anytime soon.
