On January 5, 31-year-old Huston shared a carousel of images on Instagram, sharing his injuries. This shocked the acclaimed rapper as he commented on Nyjah Huston’s post: “U got this bro.”

Nyjah’s post gave a glimpse into the extent of his injuries. The first image was him lying in a hospital bed, followed by images of paramedics attending to him as he sat on the curb, a mirror selfie showing a swollen and bruised eye, him in a wheelchair outside HonorHealth Medical Facility, wrapped in a white blanket with bright yellow hospital socks.

And the final photo was of him on the ground as bystanders rushed to assist. Alongside the images, Nyjah Huston wrote: “A harsh reminder how death-defying skating massive rails can be. But Travis’ reaction came from a story much bigger than just the shock of a single fall.

Nyjah Huston has represented the United States at two Olympic Games: Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, where he won a bronze medal in men’s street skateboarding. But Huston’s rise in skateboarding started long before the Olympics. He has ruled the Street League Skateboarding circuit and won a gold medal at the SLS Super Crown World Championship in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2017, 2019, and 2021.

Due to his growing popularity, Huston appeared in memorable skateboard videos with the “Elementality” series and “Rise and Shine,” through collaborations with major brands such as Element Skateboards, Nike SB, and DC Shoes. Travis Scott has also been a major part of these collaborations, especially with Nike SB, where he shot a skateboard commercial for his sneaker launch.

As his injury post went viral, other fans and fellow athletes struggled to watch their favorite street skate champion in pain.

Fans and legends rally around Huston after his scary fall

Professional skateboarder Kevin Romar commented on Huston’s post, writing, “That was a wild fall bro I’m glad you are okay man damn 🙏.” Yet Huston has encountered his fair share of injuries since he turned pro at the age of 11. But his first major surgery came in August 2022 when he tore his ACL. Recovery was brutal, and he didn’t even try a kickflip again for four months and 12 days.

Nyjah Huston reflected on that period: “I wasn’t sure if I was ever going to feel as good on my board again. I wasn’t sure if I was going to still have the same confidence.”

Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk also commented: “Heavy. Stay strong; we know you’ll be back.” Hawk understands the physical risks firsthand. Throughout his career, he has fractured his skull, suffered more than 20 concussions, broken his elbow, ribs, pelvis, and femur, and even lost teeth during falls. In 2022, Hawk suffered a serious injury in his femur. But that didn’t stop him.

For now, all we can do is pray for Huston’s recovery. Even in the wake of this scary accident, he remains focused on the future. Nyjah Huston has openly spoken about his plans to compete at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

“I’m stoked for the L.A. Olympics. I’m definitely going to try my best to be there. I plan to be there,” Nyjah Huston told Reuters in August 2025. He explained that the Southern California setting adds extra motivation: “It helps having the extra motivation that it’s in Southern California, where I’ve lived for so long and where skateboarding really thrives. It’s SoCal living.”
