Turmoil in New York has hit a fever pitch, and with a head coach fired and a rookie quarterback sidelined, veteran Russell Wilson is turning to a higher power to keep the Giants’ fractured season from completely falling apart. For Wilson, the answer isn’t in the playbook, but in the scriptures.

“The lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged,” he posted on his Instagram story.

Wilson took charge during the Week 10 game against the Bears when Rookie Jaxson Dart, who had secured notable results for the team, faced a significant setback when he suffered a concussion after a hard hit. While it was Wilson who turned out to be his backup during the recent game, it seems like the team is not willing to consider him as the starter in the upcoming matchups. The veteran completed 42.9% of his passes for 45 yards against the Chicago.

The report emerged from Ian Rapoport, who tried to dissect the QB situation.

“We don’t know right now whether or not Jaxson Dart is going to be on the field this coming week for the Giants. Obviously, there is a chance that he is not, which could mean that they are playing without their star rookie,” Ian said. “Russell Wilson was the backup. Jameis Winston is a three, and Brian Daboll was unclear after the game about whether or not Russ would be the starter. So certainly, there’s a chance we could see Jameis next week.”

While Daboll did not commit, Mike Kafka has yet to name his pick. Although this can be seen as the Giants giving up on Wilson, he still has a chance of lining up under center. Wilson, being Wilson, will not let this affect him. The veteran has always had a strong faith when it comes to dealing with similar situations.

It was during Wilson’s time with the Steelers. Days after being signed, the team traded for Justin Fields, starting the QB battle. While Russell’s injury paved the way for Fields to perform, it was Justin’s performance that had coaches impressed. Back then, Wilson came up with a strong message on faith.

“I think ultimately I focus on, as I mentioned to you guys — obviously my faith means everything to me. God chose me for this, and He chose me to play this game. I’m one of 32 men in the world that get to do what I do, get to play this game every day,” he had said.

As the Giants too deal with their quarterback conundrum, another major change came in terms of the coaching team.

Giants take shocking call amid turbulent season

The New York Giants made a major move recently by firing head coach Brian Daboll after their 4th consecutive loss. Their defeat against the Bears paved the way for OC Mike Kafka to step up as the interim head coach. Ownership said the decision came after assessing the necessary steps that were needed to reset the direction of the franchise.

“We spoke this morning about the direction of our franchise on the field, and we have decided that, at this time, it is in our best interest to make a change at the head coaching position,” said Giants president John Mara.

Daboll’s time in New York started after he took over in 2022 and led the Giants to a 9-7-1 record and a playoff win, earning the NFL Coach of the Year award. However, the rising graph of his success didn’t sustain. The Giants finished 6-11 in 2023 and 3-14 in 2024, with growing locker-room tension and poor late-game execution.

With Daboll out, can the Giants improve their 2-8 record? As a message on faith echoes, it remains to be seen who starts the upcoming clash against the Packers.
