Essentials Inside The Story
- The Raiders moved on from head coach Pete Carroll after just one season
- Minority owner Tom Brady is taking a central role in the organization
- Matt Nagy is currently one of the most sought-after candidates in the coaching cycle
The Las Vegas Raiders didn’t waste much time moving on from Pete Carroll after finishing the 2025 regular season with one of the league’s worst performances. In the process, though, it marked the second straight time Tom Brady has found himself searching for a new head coach since becoming the Raiders’ minority owner. And with another reset underway, Las Vegas has already jumped back into the market.

One of the first names to surface is Matt Nagy, as the Raiders have an interview lined up with the Kansas City Chiefs‘ offensive coordinator for the vacant HC position. The development came shortly after Raiders owner Mark Davis made it clear that Brady and general manager John Spytek would work closely together in identifying the team’s next head coach.

“Together they will guide football decisions with a shared focus on leadership, culture, and alignment with the organization’s long-term vision and goals,” the owner said in a statement after firing Carroll just one year after hiring him.
Fast forward to now, and Nagy is officially the first candidate the Raiders are set to interview. According to reports, the meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 8.
Nagy’s appeal stems from a deep resume rooted in the Andy Reid coaching tree, starting as an intern in Philadelphia in 2008 before becoming a key offensive mind in Kansas City in 2013. While his head coaching stint in Chicago produced a Coach of the Year award and two playoff trips, it ended after four seasons (2018 to 2021), leading him back to the Chiefs, where he has spent the last few years rehabilitating his image as the offensive coordinator.

Now, after a 2025 season that went sideways for Nagy and the Chiefs, the OC’s name has resurfaced in head coaching conversations once again. And while Tom Brady’s Raiders are set to interview him, they’re not the only team keeping tabs on his availability.

Titans and the Cardinals are also interested in Matt Nagy
The next few days are shaping up to be busy for Matt Nagy. While it’s already official that the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator will interview with Tom Brady’s Raiders, NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo reports that Nagy is also lined up for interviews with the Tennessee Titans and the Arizona Cardinals. And based on how things are unfolding, Tennessee appears particularly interested.
Following his meeting with the Raiders, Nagy is scheduled to interview with the Titans on Thursday. Tennessee was one of the first teams to make a coaching change during the 2025 season, firing Brian Callahan mid-season. Callahan, who was hired in 2024, went 3–14 in his first season and finished last in the AFC South.

However, there was optimism heading into 2025. The Titans were armed with the first overall pick and selected Cam Ward. But things unraveled quickly. Tennessee dropped five of its first six games, and the organization decided to reset. With their interest in an offensive-minded coach like Nagy, it’s clear the focus is now on developing their quarterback.

But the Titans won’t be Nagy’s final stop this week. He’s also scheduled to interview with the Cardinals on Friday, January 9, after Arizona moved on from Jonathan Gannon following three seasons. And at this point, it’s no longer about whether Nagy lands another head coaching opportunity; it’s about where. With multiple teams circling, the next few days should bring clarity on which situation ultimately fits him best.
