Essentials Inside The Story
- Former Giants CB, who played during the Eli Manning era goes missing for seven months
- Family pleads publicly for help, as they continue their search
- Football world shifts focus from career to safety
It has been seven months since Sam Beal, selected by the Giants in the 2018 supplemental draft, was last seen. Authorities have searched, flyers have circulated, and those closest to him say they have exhausted every option they know. But now, his sister, Essence Zhane, has once again turned to social media, asking for help.

“Tomorrow makes it 7 months since we’ve last heard from or seen my brother. We’ve done everything we could on our end to piece things together and at this point we’re in desperate need of support on all ends,” Zhane wrote on Facebook on Monday, as reported by Pro Football Talk.
“I’m not here to answer a bunch of why’s and how’s I just need this to land in the right direction to gain some form of answers or closure. I’m a Big sister and I need my brother to know that We Love You and miss you and this has been a heavy feeling for months to carry around,” she added.

Along with the post was a picture of Beal’s license photo, the missing persons report, and an image of a parking receipt from July 12, 2025, the last day he was seen. Zhane ended her message with a plea to anyone who had information about her brother to come forward and share it with the Kentwood Police Department or the Virginia Beach Police Department.

According to the missing persons report listed on the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), Beal disappeared after dropping his girlfriend off at a family member’s home. He had borrowed her car and told her he was heading to work. Instead, investigators say he drove toward Virginia Beach.

The next day, Beal spoke to his girlfriend by phone. He told her where he was and said he would be returning home. That call, dated July 13, 2025, was the last confirmed contact anyone has had with him.
The NamUs case details paint an increasingly troubling picture. Beal left without packing anything. He had only the clothes he was wearing, a pair of slides, and his wallet containing his driver’s license and banking card. There have been no financial transactions, messages, or confirmed sightings since.

The vehicle he borrowed was later recovered in Virginia Beach by one of his girlfriend’s family members. Inside, investigators found Beal’s shoes and socks on the front passenger floor, along with sand scattered across the area. The discovery raised more questions than answers and offered no clear indication of where he may have gone next.
The Kentwood Police Department in Michigan is listed as the investigating agency on the case. As of now, authorities have not released additional updates publicly, and the family continues to wait for any break that might explain what happened after that final phone call.
Beal is described as having black hair, brown eyes, and a muscular, athletic build. His girlfriend remains the last known person to have seen him in person, a detail that has anchored the timeline but done little to help with his search.

Right now, the focus remains on finding Beal and understanding what happened after that final phone call. Still, his name resurfacing has also reminded many of the short, uneven chapter he once had in New York.
The ups & downs of Sam Beal’s NFL Career
Sam Beal entered the league through an unconventional door. After starring at Western Michigan, he became one of the more notable names in the 2018 supplemental draft, where the New York Giants used a mid-round value to bring him in. It was a calculated gamble during a period when the franchise was searching for young defensive pieces while nearing the end of the Eli Manning era. But that opportunity never fully materialized on the field.

Beal’s rookie season was disrupted early by a shoulder injury that required surgery, delaying his development and limiting his availability. When he did see action in 2019, his role remained small, as the Giants cycled through personnel during a transitional year that ultimately marked Manning’s final season in New York. For Beal, momentum never followed.
He opted out of the 2020 season amid the COVID-19 pandemic, losing another critical year of continuity. He returned in 2021 but struggled to carve out a lasting role, appearing in only three games before being released late in the season. Over nine total appearances across three seasons, he recorded 27 tackles( 21 of them solo), one tackle for loss, one pass defensed, and a safety. He also dealt with off-field complications, pleading guilty to two gun-related charges stemming from a 2020 traffic stop in Ohio, adding further strain to an already fragile career. After his release in 2021, Beal did not try to re-establish his professional playing career.
