Essentials Inside The Story
- Cam Skattebo suffered a recent health scare on Christmas Day
- Following his Week 8 surgery, doctors estimate a 4–6 month recovery time
- Before his injury, Skattebo was a frontrunner for Offensive Rookie of the Year
Christmas didn’t start too well in the Skattebo household. The New York Giants rookie RB Cam Skattebo, who’s been on Injured Reserve since October, gave his fans a brief scare with an Instagram story with a picture of IV fluid. But then, a sigh of relief came as the story was actually to credit a “clutch” medical intervention for getting him back on his feet during the holiday.

“Thanks to Dr. Mark for coming through clutch for Christmas, woke up feeling crappy and @peakbymd came through to save the day,” he wrote as the caption on his Instagram story.
It remains a question whether the young running back was referring to a new setback or an obstacle in his ankle injury recovery. The RB suffered the season-ending injury in Week 8 against the Eagles, involving a dislocated ankle, fractured fibula, and ruptured deltoid ligament.

The injury occurred during the second quarter on a pass over the middle. Cam Skattebo got his feet caught under him as he was taken to the ground by Eagles linebacker Zack Baun. Following the injury, the RB underwent a successful surgery on his dislocated ankle at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital Presbyterian campus and is currently in rehab.

The latter, however, appears to be doing well with a positive mindset as he was recently spotted in Brooklyn with his partner, Chloe Rodriguez. The couple headed for date night at a Jonas Brothers concert. According to Rodriguez, the two “partied like it was ‘09,’ referring to a last hurrah to 2025.

Skattebo also shared his girlfriend’s post on his story with lyrics from Travis Scott’s Sicko Mode as a caption, “Walkin in security ain’t do no pat downs.”
Skattebo was seen walking through what looked like a stadium tunnel, which seems celebratory given the severity of his injury.

Skattebo was the Giants’ best draft pick, leading all rookies in yards from scrimmage and touchdowns till Week 8, right before he was sidelined for the rest of the 2025 season.
“He’s recovering,” said former head coach Brian Daboll following Skattebo’s surgery. “Obviously, he’ll be missed, but on the road to recovery.”
October was the last time Daboll addressed Skattebo’s injury, and then he refused to get into the details. While the Giants coaching staff has kept his recovery behind closed doors, Skattebo himself has been anything but quiet, choosing to spend his recovery in the center of the public eye.

Cam Skattebo’s viral injury recovery
Even though Skattebo hasn’t been seen on the field since Week 8, he hasn’t been MIA. He’s been rather visible, some might say, way too much with his viral antics. Earlier in November, he turned a “hot mic” moment at UFC 322 into a viral sensation with his unhinged cageside energy. Just a few days after that, he was seen at Madison Square Garden in utter chaos.
He was joined by teammates as well as comedian Andrew Schulz for a scripted (but very physical) shove-fest on WWE Monday Night Raw. That’s not something you would expect from someone recovering from a dislocated ankle. But then, the Giants’ interim head coach Mike Kafka revealed to have pre-approved the whole thing.

Though Kafka said he trusts Skattebo, General Manager Joe Schoen has been in the rookie’s ear about avoiding “dumb s***.” Yet, the running back believes he’s being smart about things and not deliberately putting himself in a bad situation.
