The Dallas Cowboys are on the brink of elimination from the NFL Playoff race, as they only have a 1% chance to qualify for the postseason. One of the biggest reasons why they find themselves in this situation is their defense, led by Matt Eberflus. The former Chicago Bears head coach has been under fire, especially after the Cowboys suffered a shocking 34-26 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Ahead of the Week 16 clash against the Chargers, Eberflus has decided to make a significant change as he will call the game from the coaches’ booth in the stadium.

ESPN’s Todd Archer confirmed the development as he reported, “Matt Eberflus said he will move to the coaches both [booth] from the sideline for the final three games. He said he’s done it before, and the different perspective should help.”

This will be the first time since 2009, during his tenure with the Browns, that Matt Eberflus will lead the defense from the coaches’ booth. Further, Eberflus’ decision also comes after team owner Jerry Jones raised concerns about the DC.

“He [Jones] can’t say no,” said Shan Shariff via 105.3 The Fan. “The last three games have no impact because that means that the decision has already been made. So, I think it was lip service. I think he’s already made up his mind. Matt Eberflus will be another defensive coordinator change for Jerry Jones next year.”

According to Shan Shariff of the Inside The Star podcast, Jerry Jones has already made up his mind on firing Matt Eberflus. Especially with the Cowboys ranking 29th in the NFL with 374.9 yards allowed per game and 31st with 30.0 points allowed per game. The former Chicago Bears head coach was expected to turn around Dallas’ disappointing defense, but the team has actually regressed even further, as it gave up 355.2 yards and 27.5 points per game in 2024.

Despite the Cowboys’ playoff hopes being on the verge of ending, Jerry Jones has sent a message to his team about his hopes for the rest of the regular season.

With a 6-7-1 record, the Dallas Cowboys need a miracle to stay alive in the playoff hunt this season. But, Jerry Jones is not leaving anything to chance and wants the Cowboys to go for the win in the last three games.

“We’ll worry about [being eliminated] when the time comes, but a win is very, very important in the NFL, and a win is important to me,” said Jerry Jones on Tuesday’s radio interview. “A win does a lot of positive things. I don’t care when it happens. We owe it to that mirror, and we certainly owe it to our fans that we want to walk out there and be competitive. We will not try for a draft position. We won’t be looking at anything like that. We’ll be out there playing football, and we’ll bring them to play.”

Now, with the Los Angeles Chargers next, the Dallas Cowboys will need to secure a victory and then hope that the other results fall in their favor.
