It has been some 15 years since Dak Prescott wore the No.6 at Haughton High School. He made the number famous there and at the Hal Harlan Stadium, where packed crowds would push each other to get a glimpse of the kid. And now that Prescott, who leads the Dallas Cowboys‘ offense, had a bye week, he made sure to return to his alma mater. But it wasn’t a simple homecoming on Thursday night. He was back there for the dedication of Prescott Field and also for his jersey retirement.

“Surround yourself with the right people, man,” the quarterback said during his speech. “Hug your teammates. Tell your teammates you love them.
“If you’re going through something, don’t be afraid to share it. You and your teammate, or you and a couple of teammates, whoever, y’all can get through.”

He was joined by his fiancée, Sarah Jane Ramos, and their two children, who all witnessed Prescott’s No.6 jersey being retired. And while it was all a big moment for the Prescott family, Rodney Guin, who was his head coach with the Buccaneers, was beaming. He knew Prescott would achieve something big in his career after he saw the way he played against district rival Parkway in 2010.
Both sides were 9-0 leading up to the district title game in Prescott’s senior year. But in a weird twist of events, the QB had sprained his MCL and was questionable against Parkway. Even teammates weren’t sure if he would play. That was until they saw him walk into the locker room before kickoff. He was fully suited.
When Haughton was down 7-0, the coaches had no option but to send in their star. And right in his first series, he recorded a 60-yard scoring drive. Prescott went on to play so well that quarterbacks coach Kyle Wilkerson let the player finish the game.

After Prescott’s 366 yards and three touchdowns, Haughton won 27-21!
Those are the days he will never forget. No wonder he has been supporting the school. The signal-caller donated more than $1.2 million to the school this year. That amount was used to build a huge video board, the centerpiece of Thursday’s ceremony, and also revamp the Buccaneers’ weight room.

Fans react to Dak Prescott’s emotional tribute
The news of Dak Prescott’s jersey retirement quickly went viral, and fans poured into the comments section with emotion and admiration. Many celebrated his character just as much as his talent, praising him for never losing touch with his roots.
“Great work, my guy!” one fan commented on Prescott’s post, congratulating him on still being in touch with his community. Others echoed the same pride, calling him “My QB” and “That’s my QB, man,” showing how deeply Cowboys Nation identifies with their leader.
Prescott had spent a big part of his childhood learning at the Haughton football program. That was his default choice because his older brothers were already playing for the Buccaneers, and that’s how coach Guin knew the kid was special.

The QB started for the school as a junior. And in his senior year, he led them to a 12-1 season, making it to the state quarterfinals. So, fans who had seen him play back then were simply happy about his achievements in the NFL.
“Simply the BEST!!,” one user wrote, labeling Prescott both the greatest of his generation and the heart of the franchise. Another added, “Love my QB,” another mentioned.
So, these reactions clearly illustrated that Prescott’s influence goes far beyond just touchdowns and victories. To his fans, he is not merely the Cowboys’ quarterback; He is family, someone who embodies loyalty, leadership, and a love for his roots.
