The Chiefs trailed by seven points at the 3:44 mark in the fourth quarter. On the 1st & 10 play at Kansas 8, he made a quick pass to his right, but the veteran dropped the pass. On the very next play, Mahomes threw the ball to Kelce again, who almost had it in his hands.

However, the Texans’ defense was on him as he turned, and the ball fumbled out. There was enough time and space for the linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, who quickly took it away, completing an interception. Both chances spoiled the fans’ expectations of staging a comeback in the game. At one point, fans targeted the quarterback for not throwing the ball enough to the tight end. But that would not have been the right decision.

Even before, the defense surrounded Travis Kelce and did not give him enough time to create space. Mahomes had to wait until the 4:10 mark in the second quarter. The throw he made was also incomplete. Overall, Travis Kelce looked like a shadow of his peak years. Even in the 2025 season, he has been the top receiving player of the franchise, with 59 receptions for 719 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He had only one reception for eight yards against the Texans, the lowest in the entire season.

Frustrated by the losses, the Chiefs Kingdom took to social media to voice their anger, with many directing their ire at the veteran tight end.

The tension about the consecutive losses has reached the boiling point. Not only Travis Kelce, but there were also others who became the fans’ target. “Following teammates needs to be fired or retired after this season for the @Chiefs Matt Nagy Andy Reid Travis Kelce,” another fan tweeted. However, the head coach, Andy Reid, and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy are also trying their hardest.

Earlier this year, reports came out that Kelce had shed weight to run faster. It has become one of the reasons he is leading the receiving corps. However, fans want them to move ahead without the veteran. One supporter mentioned, “Travis Kelce, please retire. For the love of every thing football, take your old a-s and enjoy life as a one of the all time greats. You are out of your element and cannot compete with the youth of the league. See you in Canton.”
