The Kansas City Chiefs dropped to 5–5 after their 22–19 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 11. This put Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in a tough spot as he tries to keep the AFC West title and playoff race alive. But just as hope dipped for the Chiefs, a fan shared a message of belief, and Mahomes’ mom, Randi, backed it.

Something unexpected happened this week when Randi replied to a Kansas City fan’s post with a simple two-word message: “Me too.”

The Chiefs fan had also attached to the post a picture of Patrick Mahomes looking downcast in his Chiefs uniform. The image also carried a bold message: “DON’T GIVE UP ON THE CHIEFS YET.”

“I still believe in our Chiefs 🙏🏽 @Chiefs,” the fan captioned the post.

Patrick Mahomes’ mom saw the post and decided to echo that belief. And honestly, who has supported Mahomes longer than she has? She has been his biggest cheerleader since his Whitehouse High School days in Texas. She still shows up for games, engages with fans, and stays vocal online.

Before the season began, Randi admitted that her biggest fear every Sunday isn’t about Patrick losing games. It’s about the risk of injury that he faces on every snap. So, she has always advised her son to prioritize his health over winning games. But now the Chiefs are dealing with a rough patch as wins have been elusive.

Hope feels low in Kansas City as the Chiefs’ streak of nine straight AFC West titles is in jeopardy. They’re 5–5 overall, 3½ games behind Denver, and they hold no tiebreakers over the Broncos or the Los Angeles Chargers. After the Week 11 loss, they fell to the ninth seed in the AFC. The Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Chargers currently hold the wild-card spots. To make it worse, all three teams have beaten the Chiefs this season.

So, the math doesn’t help the Chiefs right now, and the path to the playoffs is looking even steeper. The schedule also gets tougher for Patrick Mahomes and Co. They will face the 8-2 Indianapolis Colts, who are leading the AFC South. Calling that an easy matchup would be a stretch.

The Chiefs then also have road games against the Dallas Cowboys, Tennessee Titans, and Las Vegas Raiders. And ESPN’s Bill Barnwell recently suggested that the 2025 Chiefs have handled bad teams better than the 2024 squad ever did.

“While there’s no such thing as a gimme game for a 5-5 team, the 2025 Chiefs have dominated bad teams in a way that the 2024 Chiefs did not,” wrote Barnwell in his recent article.

Could that give them some hope down the stretch? Randi’s message suggests it might. Patrick Mahomes’ mom is standing with Kansas City fans who refuse to quit on the Chiefs. Still, she likely knows the team has already done plenty of damage to its playoff chances. And that’s why Mahomes couldn’t hide his frustration after the latest loss.

Patrick Mahomes makes his frustrations clear after the Chiefs’ Week 11 loss

When Broncos kicker Wil Lutz sealed the win for his team in Week 11, the Chiefs fell to 0–5 in one-score games this season. This matchup was supposed to be the moment the Chiefs turned things around to keep playoff hopes alive. Instead, post-game Patrick Mahomes stood at the presser and admitted his biggest frustration: himself.

“We haven’t been consistent enough to win football games, but it starts with me,” Patrick Mahomes said.

The Chiefs’ QB threw for 276 yards, a touchdown, and a pick against the Broncos. It was not an awful outing, but Mahomes did not play at his usual standard either. Still, it is important to note that the Chiefs’ offense recorded only 62 rushing yards. Denver also pressured Mahomes all night. As such, Mahomes also called out the Chiefs’ locker room to do better after the loss.

“It s-cks losing this football game, and when you think you have a chance to win it, and you don’t do that,” said Mahomes. “And you kind of get yourself behind. But at the end of the day, all you gotta do is find a way to get in.”

So now, the Chiefs face a steep climb this season. But all Patrick Mahomes and his team can do is regroup, learn, and prepare for the next game at Arrowhead. And maybe, just maybe, echo Randi’s message and believe in themselves.
