Essentials Inside The Story

  • Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez go viral during Chiefs' tough loss
  • Does Selena Gomez support the Kansas City Chiefs
  • Travis Kelce’s costly mistakes and injuries derail Kansas City offense

The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Houston Texans in a one-sided affair, 20-10. This defeat has virtually knocked the Chiefs out of the playoff race. While Travis Kelce’s two crucial mistakes highlighted the Week 14 matchup, it was Taylor Swift and her close friend Selena Gomez who stole the limelight at Arrowhead Stadium.

Cameras quickly found the duo in Swift’s suite, where their reactions, cheers, and sideline chatter exploded across social media.

Immediately, the question was: Is Selena Gomez a Chiefs fan now?

Well, Gomez has never publicly acknowledged her support for any NFL team, but now, simply showing up for a Chiefs game puts her right in the middle of Chiefs Kingdom discussion.

Lighthearted interactions, easy laughter, and mid-game reactions served up pure BFF energy, the kind you seldom get to see on full display in such a public, unfiltered setting.

The outing also underlined how deep the friendship was between Swift and Gomez. Seventeen years after they met for the first time, while both reportedly dated Nick Jonas and Joe Jonas, Swift and Gomez have shown up for award nights, professional triumphs, and intimate personal milestones. Swift also appeared at Gomez’s wedding. And Arrowhead appearances fit naturally in that pattern of mutual loyalty and visibility.

Swift’s presence carried its own significance. This marked her fifth public appearance at a Chiefs game since announcing her engagement to Travis Kelce on Aug. 26. Each outing has come with massive fan attention, but this one stood out because Gomez joined her, a rare pairing for a live sporting event.

The sight of two global pop icons bundled in cold-weather gear, reacting in real time to every Chiefs misstep and highlight, delivered one of the most viral celebrity moments of the season.

But as Swift and Gomez brightened the suite, the game below them was telling a very different story. Behind the star-studded backdrop of Swift and Gomez, the Chiefs fell to 6–7 on the season and further tightened an already-narrow playoff path.

Chiefs Loss to Texans

Disaster struck on the first offensive play when Wanya Morris went down with an injury, forcing offensive tackle Esa Pole into his NFL debut under immediate duress. Kansas City’s offense sputtered to open the game, punting on both opening drives and never finding much rhythm behind a shaken offensive line.

The Chiefs did flash some early grit defensively, forcing a Texans punt despite a holding penalty on Nick Bolton. The stability didn’t last. Houston capitalized with a field goal for a 3–0 lead, then extended it to 10–0 when the Texans’ QB CJ Stroud hit Jo’quavious Marks in the red zone.

At one point, Kansas City was equal with Houston, at 10–10. However, in the fourth quarter, things changed completely.

A pass intended for Travis Kelce bounced off his hands and fell into the arms of Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, which killed any chances of a comeback for the Chiefs. Houston added a late field goal to finalize the 20-10 outcome.

This loss drops Kansas City’s playoff probability to 16%, and this loss has added more questions for them.
