Back in February, Cris Collinsworth dropped a bold admission. He admitted he has a bias toward the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. That confession stuck with fans across the league. And now it feels like that line has come back to haunt him.

Fast forward to Sunday night. Chiefs fans inside Arrowhead and across Chiefdom heard Collinsworth go all in again. Kansas City is sitting at 6-6 and fighting to stay alive. They need wins. But before the Chiefs went to the field, Collinsworth sounded calm and confident. He told everyone he still believes in their Super Bowl shot.

“I can still see the Chiefs going to the Super Bowl!” he said on Sunday night.

And of course, that sparked the backlash. But we can’t blame Collinsworth for his choice. The Chiefs have indeed proved earlier that they can make a comeback from anything. For instance, last year, Opta Stats highlighted the Chiefs’ eighth straight win, despite trailing in the second half of a game.

“No other team in NFL history has won 8 straight games in which they trailed in the second half.”

Although this year, the Chiefs haven’t shown much greatness, the reports still suggest that they aren’t done in the playoff race yet. The Arrowhead team is now at 16 percent to make the postseason, according to The Athletic’s playoff simulator.

However, a Super Bowl chance might be doubtful for them given their this season’s performance and multiple injuries to their key players. Hence, Collinsworth’s words didn’t sit well with the netizens. As soon as the sports broadcaster claimed, the fans rolled their eyes and called it predictable.

Cris Collinsworth’s Chiefs bias left him in hot water

As his take went viral, fans across social media fired off takes at light speed. One comment that spread fast said it all. “Cris Collinsworth is insufferable,” one fan wrote.

Another fan took it further and said, “I hope Mahomes pays Cris Collinsworth a hefty amount of money for how far up his a-s he is.” Then again, Collinsworth never hid his stance. He once laid it out plain.

“Honestly, I don’t care if anyone thinks I like Patrick Mahomes, because I do. I do like the guy. He’s been one of the most phenomenal players we’ve seen in the league for a long, long time,” Collinsworth said back in February.

So, in his mind, he is just being honest and appreciating greatness. But fans are not buying that anymore. They kept posting and complaining throughout the night.

One wrote, “God, I hate Cris Collinsworth.” Another chimed in and said, “Cris Collinsworth needs to chill. He’s rooting for the Chiefs a bit too much. Kinda ridiculous for someone of his position, as it’s his job to be unbiased.” And another one added, “Listening to Cris Collinsworth is the worst.”

Yet the wild part is what happened next. The optimism did not match the reality, as the Chiefs lost. And Patrick Mahomes had one of the worst performances of his career Sunday night during the Chiefs’ 20-10 home loss to the Texans, which knocked them out of contention to win the AFC West. The silver and blue stunned the red and gold.

Mahomes struggled from start to finish. The Chiefs’ star quarterback finished the game completing a mere 14-of-33 passes for 160 yards without a single touchdown throw. To make matters worse, Mahomes threw three interceptions, marking the first time this season he’s done so and the first time since Dec. 11, 2022. And his 42.4 completion percentage was a career low for Mahomes.

The Chiefs are 6-7 and now face a real threat of missing the postseason for the first time in years. So now everyone waits and wonders how they will respond in the next week.
