After two back-to-back playoff seasons in 2023 and 2024, the Green Bay Packers couldn’t sail their ship long enough this season. With Green Bay’s struggles becoming a pattern, calls for LaFleur’s firing are only growing louder.

The Bears delivered one of the most dramatic playoff comebacks in franchise history Saturday night. A crowd of 60,338 created a playoff atmosphere that shook the stadium as Chicago stormed back in the fourth quarter. The win sent the Bears to the divisional round and marked just the fourth time in NFL history a team won a playoff game after trailing by 15 or more points entering the fourth quarter.

Green Bay controlled the game early and therefore built a 21–3 halftime lead behind three touchdown drives to open the night. QB Jordan Love became a highlight by throwing three first-half touchdown passes and finishing with 323 yards and four scores. The Bears, on the other hand, managed only a field goal before halftime and faced their largest home playoff deficit ever. The Bears’ win probability never climbed above 25% right from the second quarter, touching a day low mark of even 3%.
However, the game took a turn after halftime. Chicago’s struggling defense gathered all its strength to force the Packers to punt on four straight second-half possessions. This gave the offense repeated chances to climb back in. The Bears finally seized the lead with 1:48 remaining when Caleb Williams connected with DJ Moore for a 25-yard touchdown.
The defeat eliminated the Packers in the opening round for the second straight year, extending their Super Bowl drought to 15 seasons. Because of this, frustrated Green Bay fans couldn’t hold themselves back and therefore vented their frustration on the HC.

Fans demand Matt LaFleur’s firing after the Packers’ elimination
The Green Bay Packers’ official X account posted the final score as a post, and the fans went furious with their rage. Strictly calling for Matt LaFleur’s firing, a fan mentioned how outcomes like these have now become recurrent.

“Bittersweet statement, LaFleur needs to be gone. Too many 3rd quarter stagnant drives game after game with a lead. Not sure what the solution is but the problem is glaring. Maybe Kubiak?” he wrote.
The showdown turned out to be a rematch of the clash on 21st December. The game saw the Packers open by scoring 6 in the second quarter. However, despite the early domination, the Bears turned the tables in the fourth quarter by scoring a big 13.

Another fan demanded not just Matt LaFleur’s but the kicker Brandon McManus’ exit as well. “Lafleur needs to go. McManus needs to go. Stenavich needs to go. Bisaccia needs to go,” he wrote.

The wild card game against the Bears saw Brandon McManus miss three kicks, including two in the fourth quarter. Those misses were a major reason the Packers’ season ended with a heartbreaking 31–27 playoff loss.
It took no time for the suggestions and requests to transition into orders. A fan, showing up with a tricky tone, wrote: “If you’re a real franchise, Matt LaFleur and Brandon McManus are gone tonight.”
HC LaFleur joined the Packers back in 2019. Ever since then, the team has made it to the playoffs five times, but has either lost in the Wild Card, divisional, or even the NFC Championship (in 2020).

Fans even made attempts to suggest a direction Packers management should consider after firing LaFleur. “John Harbaugh is available,” a fan wrote. The Baltimore Ravens ended their long-term membership with Harbaugh recently, and the highly experienced coach is now available in the hiring window.
Another fan even despised the partnership between Jordan Love and the HC, making it clear that they are not the future of the team. “Jordan Love is not our future. Matt LaFleur is not that good. Awful showing. I’m disgusted,” he wrote. The recent game saw the QB throw for 323 yards, securing 4 touchdowns with no interceptions. However, the pass completion rate turned out to be concerning, at 52.2%.
With these and several other comments on a similar note, the fans made it clear that they do not wish to see Matt LaFleur continue in his position. While the season has already witnessed almost eight HC firings, it remains to be seen if the Packers will be next.
