Essentials Inside The Story

  • Cam Taylor-Britt has been sentenced to five days in jail.
  • He was involved in two separate incidents in 2025.
  • The Bengals have not addressed the situation yet.

After missing out on the playoffs, the Cincinnati Bengals received startling news concerning cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt. The player was booked into jail on Tuesday morning, around 11 a.m., after he pleaded guilty to reckless driving and driving without a license, as reported by Local 12’s Chelsea Sick. She was the only reporter in the courtroom for Taylor-Britt’s proceedings.

The cornerback was involved in two separate incidents in 2025, which took place in downtown Cincinnati. The first one took place on June 18. Cincinnati police cited him for driving his 2022 Dodge Charger recklessly with five people in the car. The second incident took place on September 14, when he allegedly took part in street racing with a 2021 Jeep Cherokee near Paycor Stadium. It was the same day the Bengals played their home-opener against the Jaguars.

A CPD officer mentioned that the player drove recklessly on the wrong side of the street in September, crossing over the double yellow lines, and did a burnout. He then sped up North.

In court, a judge asked Taylor-Britt why he put his own and others’ lives in danger. “No reason at all,” the player responded.

The NFL player’s attorney, Joseph Tekulve, later requested that the judge impose community service rather than jail time.

“He is remorseful for his actions. He’s not going to be in this position again and he’s taking this very seriously,” the attorney said. Taylor-Britt was sorry about his actions and said, “I just want to apologize, first and foremost, for my actions, that I have put everyone else through.”

However, the judge decided to sentence the player to five days in jail instead of 30 days. No fine was imposed, and a request to delay the jail time was denied. Deputies immediately took Taylor-Britt to jail, and while at it, he was seen using crutches because of an injury from the Bengals versus the Steelers contest in November.

“Hopefully this will get his attention, and he’ll continue to keep his license and not drive like a maniac on our streets,” Judge Bouchard said, hoping the sentence would push for a behavior change.

After the hearing, Taylor-Britt’s attorney declined any requests for comment. Even the Bengals have not addressed the situation.

Cam Taylor-Britt’s attorney claimed the player was to receive his new license

Tekulve told the judge that his client was at a Kentucky transportation office on Tuesday in order to get his new license. He also informed that the player has not driven since October and that Taylor-Britt plans to sell the vehicle that was involved in the incident.

“I planned already to knock out those things that got me into this place,” Taylor-Britt told Bouchard in court. “Because it’s not me.”

The initial trial date was scheduled for November 20, but was later changed to Tuesday. That is two days after the Bengals’ season ended. The team’s last game, Week 18, was on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, which they lost 20-18. However, Taylor-Britt’s season ended much earlier. He did not play since he was placed on injured reserve on November 21.

He had begun the season as Cincinnati’s starting outside cornerbacks. In his four years with the Bengals, he recorded 203 combined tackles, two forced fumbles, seven interceptions, and 38 passes defended.

Currently, the Bengals have Dax Hill and DJ Turner II as the top outside cornerbacks.

Cam Taylor-Britt addresses free agency after the conclusion of his rookie deal

Now, he is set to be a free agent as his rookie deal will expire. The 26-year-old spoke to reporters on Monday, a day before his case was publicized by news outlets. He mentioned he was open to playing for a new team. “I’m not opposed to it,” he said. “At the end of the day, I don’t think anybody would be mad at a new change of scenery.”

After a few decent years, the 2025 season ended up being a significant setback for Taylor-Britt. The star cornerback lost his job this season under new defensive coordinator Al Golden. He made two starts in eight games before his injury.

“I accept everything that’s happened,” Taylor-Britt further said. “I think everything played out the way it’s supposed to. I’m very grateful for everything that happened. The ups and the downs built character and the man I am today.”

Now, only time will tell whether the Bengals’ front office will re-sign Cam Taylor-Britt or will let him go in the upcoming free agency, especially after his jail sentence.
