Indiana comfortably won against Wisconsin, 31–7, in their Week 12 outing at IU Memorial Stadium. Curt Cignetti’s side showed another dominant performance with their 11th straight win, cementing their place in the playoffs. However, the Hoosiers did it without their starting edge rusher, who is sidelined with an injury. And right after the game, it was the head coach who gave an update on the situation.

The player in question is Mikail Kamara, who was sidelined against Wisconsin in the first quarter. Kamara was replaced by sophomore Daniel Ndukwe and did not appear to be available as a substitute. He was then seen without a helmet, which is an indicator that the player is suffering from an injury. While the Hoosiers won the game comfortably, questions were raised about Kamara’s injury.

Curt Cignetti addressed the issue in the post-game press conference, explaining that the senior was dealing with a shoulder and nerve stinger issue. He added that the problem has become a recurring one within his team, noting that he has “seven or eight guys in that same boat.” This comes at a crucial time with the playoffs nearing.

Mikail Kamara’s injuries are another addition to the injury list of Indiana this season. The Hoosiers played Wisconsin without All-American receiver Elijah Sarratt and starting left guard Drew Evans. They have also lost three players to knee injuries, with starting edge rusher Kellan Wyatt, RB Lee Beebe Jr., and special teams ace Bryson Bonds all out for the rest of the season.

Just like Kamara, right tackle Kahlil Benson also suffers from a lingering lower-body injury and has appeared to limp several times over the past three weeks. Now, Indiana has a bye week, which would be instrumental for the players to rest and recover. With only one game left in the season and the playoffs coming up, it becomes more important for Curt Cignetti to have strong team depth.

However, the victory over Wisconsin firmly solidifies Indiana’s place in the playoffs.

Curt Cignetti’s Indiana comfortably sits at the top of the B1G

Indiana came into the matchup as overwhelming favorites. With a 29.5-point spread, oddsmakers had the Hoosiers breezing past the Badgers in Week 12. And they did just that. QB Fernando Mendoza dropped an outstanding performance at the IU Memorial. He posted a 91.7% pass completion rate for 299 yards with 4 passing touchdowns. It felt like Mendoza used Saturday’s game as a chance to pad his stats.

Mendoza’s performance ensured that Indiana kept its eleven-game winning streak alive. Now, the race for the Big Ten championship has heated up between Ohio State and Indiana. With only a few games left, the title may come down to which team slips first. That pressure now shifts to Ohio State’s Ryan Day, who must keep the Buckeyes locked in.
