Alabama is making a late push to add depth to its defense through the portal. After seeing a number of exits since their loss to Indiana, the Tide are finally getting some respite from a program in the Big 10.

Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack was able to secure a commitment from former Oregon defensive lineman Terrance Green. He was the 4th-best DL in this year’s transfer portal. At 6-foot-5 and 330 pounds, Green makes for a big physical threat to be used in the Tide’s front seven. He still has two years of eligibility left.
While his career numbers at Oregon don’t jump off the page, he showed significant progress this past season, where he recorded 15 of his 22 career tackles, signaling his emergence as a disruptive force. That promising production made him a valuable commodity on the open market, and even though the transfer portal had officially closed, Green was in no rush to choose his next destination.

Finally, he made up his mind. Coming to the SEC means that his job just got a lot more difficult, but he should be able to make an impact. Though Dan Lanning didn’t give him a major role before this season, his performance was enough to have Wommack sold on him.
Green lined up in the A and B gaps in the interior on a rotational basis. But since Oregon’s 4 starting DLs would be returning for the 2026 season, Green thought of taking his skills elsewhere. According to Ducks Wire, Lanning had tried to retain him. His NIL valuation is at a steep $416,000 – quite a lot for a defensive lineman.

He remains an elite player, having been recruited as a four-star prospect in the 2023 cycle. This season, he played 269 snaps, the third most for a DL in the interior. Terrance Green will be of immense help to Kane Wommack, who will now have to design a whole new front seven for next season.

Why getting Terrance Green was important for Alabama
The defensive line was a major concern for Alabama football. The need for an impact player like Green became critical following a mass exodus from the defensive line. With LT Overton’s eligibility expiring and key contributors like Jordan Renaud and James Smith hitting the transfer portal, Wommack was left staring at a significant gap in both talent and experience.
Green joins fellow DL transfers Devan Thompkins, Caleb Smith, and Kedrick Bingley-Jones. But the Oregon DL is the best of this lot, especially because of his size. It gives him an advantage in stopping the run defense, something that ended up knocking Alabama out of the playoffs this year. He, London Simmons, and Thompkins should make for a great trio at the interior.

The former Oregon DL was brought to Tuscaloosa to help bolster this shaky unit ahead of the season. With his experience, size, and skills, Terrance Green should give Kane Wommack some assurance about his potential.
