West Virginia delivered one of the wildest upsets in women’s college basketball. The chaos unfolded when WVU defeated No. 15 Duke, 57–49, at Colonial Hall at The Greenbrier in West Virginia. But it wasn’t just the upset; it was the process that grabbed everyone’s attention.

The game played out normally until the moment WVU’s Jordan Harrison and Duke’s Jordan Wood exchanged shoves. Both were hit with Flagrant 2 fouls and immediately ejected. But the real blow came seconds later. Five Mountaineers left the bench during the altercation. That triggered an automatic ejection and leaving WVU with only five available players for the entire second half.

But the short-handed Mountaineers didn’t fold. They surged. With no substitutions, West Virginia outscored Duke 24–9 in a dominant third quarter. Duke, meanwhile, struggled, shooting just 37.5% from the field, and couldn’t capitalize on WVU’s thin rotation.
