Tensions spilled over late on December 28, and the fallout has now arrived. Sacramento Kings guard Dennis Schroder has been handed a three-game suspension following his altercation with Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic. The incident occurred after a lopsided 125-101 loss, when Schroder appeared ready to confront Doncic before Deandre Ayton intervened, bringing an abrupt end to the scene.

The verdict came out recently, and ESPN correspondent Shams Charania reported Schroder’s three-game suspension via an Instagram post where the German World Cup winner dropped a one-word reaction. The post was about Shroder getting suspended for a confrontation with Doncic and also attempting to hit another Lakers star.
“Attempting 👀🤣,” Schroder wrote in the replies in a much sarcastic way.

It was more of a jibe at the NBA’s official statement than at Shams Charania, as he was probably frustrated with the verdict. The incident reportedly happened in the hallway of the Crypto.com Arena almost 40 minutes after the game. It was the German who confronted and initiated a confrontation with Luka Doncic.
According to Bobby Marks, Schroder will also have to pay a hefty $291,807 fine for his post-game antics, along with the suspension.

Interestingly, the Sacramento Kings have lost all of their next six games since the defeat against the Lakers. Now, the already struggling team will miss one of its crucial players for the next three games. This means he will be suspended for the rematch against the Lakers on Monday, January 12, at home.

Luka Doncic’s in-game provocation to Schroder resurfaces following the three-game suspension
While the primary confrontation happened in the hallway of the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles between Schroder and Doncic, the tensions started rising right from the court and continued throughout the game as the two guards went head-to-head. A video has resurfaced suggesting that the Slovenian made a provocative jibe at Schroder of not signing the contract with the Lakers in 2021.
“Should’ve signed that contract baby,” Doncic told Schroder during the game, which stirred the German’s emotions as he eventually erupted after the game.

The taunt most likely indicates how Schroder fumbled a four-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers worth $82 million in 2021 and instead he chose to join the Boston Celtics on a 1-year $5.9 million deal. Overall, it was a defining move in his career, something that he will surely look back on after playing for seven teams in the last four years.

However, that is not all that Doncic said that night. As per ESPN‘s Anthony Slater, Schroder revealed that the Slovenian kept calling him a ‘b—-‘, and the German believes that he cannot be normal after the game when a player keeps abusing him throughout the game. Hence, he came up with a reaction after the final buzzer, one that was probably a bit too much.
Overall, a three-game suspension is not good for his momentum, nor is it good for the Kings. The German point guard has put up 13 points, 5.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 0.8 steals while shooting 41.3% from the field. In his absence, Keon Ellis, Nique Clifford, and Malik Monk are the primary candidates to replace his minutes.
