Earnhardt series roars into IDA awards spotlight

Amazon Prime’s bold move to spotlight Dale Earnhardt Sr. just gained a huge win: a nomination for Best Episodic Series at the 41st International Documentary Association Awards. The IDA nominees were selected from over 550 entries worldwide, putting Earnhardt alongside heavy hitters like HBO’s Eyes on the Prize III and Netflix’s Turning Point: The Vietnam War. And the winner will be announced on December 6, 2025, in Los Angeles.

This isn’t just a normal recognition from an award; it’s proof that the series humanizes a racing titan, blending his seven Cup titles and 76 wins with the personal moments that fueled him. The series was released in four hour-long episodes starting May 22, which explore everything from his dirt-track roots to the 2001 Daytona crash that took his life and shook the whole sport.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. captures his dad’s legendary status best, as he said, “He tapped into the thing that made him become like a superhero to a lot of people. He was like Elvis, you know, with the fandom… Fans of his thought he was indestructible and bulletproof and couldn’t do anything wrong. He was this larger-than-life, otherworldly thing. And so they worshipped him. You know, it was insane.”

But he adds, “But I didn’t, honestly, know how big an impact he had until he passed away. People were talking about him that I never even thought about them knowing who he was.”

That raw truth about Dale Sr.’s impact on the fans hits hard. Dale Sr.’s stardom was very much evident after his death in the last-lap wreck.

His stardom led to massive t-shirt sales where his face or his No. 3 car was printed. Many die-hard fans also got Dale Sr.’s image tattooed on their bodies, and it is also reported that one individual requested that Earnhardt Jr. drive with his dad’s ashes in the car. And the ‘Earnhardt’ series amplifies this, letting Dale Jr. and sister Kelley share unknown family moments, turning a personal loss into a bridge for fresh eyes on NASCAR’s soul.

Ron Howard nails the drive behind it: “It just so ticked all those boxes of really potentially great storytelling and people who don’t know anything about NASCAR, or much about it and never thought too much about it, are going to be drawn into it and understand it in a lot more visceral emotional way. And so for them, it’s going to be a real surprise.”

As the series is getting worldwide recognition, another family member from the Earnhardt family is ready to follow the legacy that his granddad Dale Sr. leaves behind.

Bobby Dale Earnhardt gears up for full ARCA push in 2026

The Earnhardt bloodline lives on as Bobby Dale Earnhardt, grandson of the seven-time champ, locks in a full 2026 ARCA Menards Series ride with Rise Motorsports. At 38, the fourth-gen racer steps up after limited starts this year, and the crashes at Bristol and Kansas only motivated him to chase consistency.

Rise owner Tim Goulet sees the fit: “We’re thrilled to have Bobby join our program for the 2026 season. He’s hungry, he’s focused, and he connects with fans in a way that fits perfectly with the vision of our team. This is a big move for Rise Motorsports, and we’re ready to take the next step together.”

Goulet’s words echo their legacy, as Bobby’s uncle Dale Jr. won two Daytonas, and Dad Kerry hustled in late models. And now the Rise’s crew aims to channel racing blood into a consistent performance in 2026, where Bobby will run 20 races, starting with Daytona.

Bobby’s fire also matched the hype, as he said, “I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity with Rise Motorsports. This team believes in what we can accomplish, and that fires me up. We’re building something strong for 2026, and I can’t wait to hit the track and show what this group is capable of.”

His belief in this new team will just motivate him to push his limit and deliver solid runs in the upcoming season. And with cousin Jeffrey running Cup spots, Bobby’s full-time run could spark that similar Earnhardt magic, making new fans of himself who still chant for the Black Three Chevy.
