You win some, you lose some. In the PGA Tour’s case, they thought they were getting Laurie Canter back in their roster this year. But, after earning his PGA Tour card through the DP World Tour, he has chosen to switch back to LIV Golf again. However, not all hope is lost as the Tour might also welcome back a veteran into its ranks.

As reported by Josh Carpenter from Sports Business Journal, Pat Perez has confirmed that he is leaving LIV Golf. Instead, the 49-year-old has committed himself to playing on the Champions Tour.
This comes barely nine months after the golfer had expressed how he wanted to play in the senior golf tour once he turned 50, in case the divide between the two tours is smoothed out.

“A lot of it will have to do with what happens with this so-called merger,” Perez said. “If it doesn’t happen, I see no chance (of playing on the Champions Tour). But if it does, I want to know what the steps are to possibly play the Tour. There’s a lot of situations that have come up and it’s all based on what happens at the end of the day.”
Notably, Perez had turned pro in 1997 and won four tournaments in the PGA Tour, including his first win at the 2009 at the Bob Hope Classic, the 2016 OHL Classic at Mayakoba, the CIMB Classic in 2017, and one on the Korn Ferry Tour. In the summer of 2022, though, it didn’t take much time for him to change his allegiance.
Just four years after achieving an Official World Golf Ranking of 16, Perez joined LIV Golf and signed to Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC, a move he described as “winning the lottery’’.

Finishing 28th in the individual standings and becoming a free agent, he resigned with the squad and finished 48th in 2024. However, come early 2025, it was announced that Perez had transitioned to an on-course reporter role for the LIV broadcast crew, where he was involved in pre- and post-round coverage.
But that’s not all.

LIV Golf stars who might follow Pat Perez back to the PGA Tour
A number of former and current LIV Golf stars are looking to find a path for a PGA Tour return. One of them is Eugenio Chacarra. The Spanish pro who used to represent Fireballs GC has since left the league.
This came as a huge surprise, as he was a former winner and a consistent performer for the team. Yet, Sergio Garcia & Co. decided not to renew his contract in 2024. Since then, he has been motivated to find his way back to the PGA Tour through the DP World Tour.
Another pro who might be looking to return to his former employer is Brooks Koepka. There have been rumors flying around that the five-time major winner will not be looking to renew his LIV Golf contract once it expires in 2026.

Scott O’Neil’s evasive statement regarding Koepka further confirmed that he may not be a part of LIV Golf’s plans for the future. It will be interesting to see what happens when his contract finally expires at the end of next season.
